Designer, art director and ceramicist. Emmanuelle Roule divides her time between graphic design, art direction and working with clay.
Since 2012, she has pursued a research-based practice using clay as a building material, at the crossroads of design and contemporary creation.
For you, she opened the doors of her studio.
A HYBRID WORKSHOP
A former farmhouse, in the 7th arrondissement of Marseille. The studio is more than a workshop.
« It is a space where I develop collections, and it is also a place for classes, chef residencies, dinners, events. »
A place to work and a place to live. The clay, the table, the encounters.
THE MATERIAL
Her work with clay carries an environmental demand. One concrete pursuit: moving beyond glazing.
« The desire to find alternatives, to stop using glazing, which is the naturally toxic part of ceramics. »
Rethinking the process without giving up the gesture. Searching, testing, moving forward. Material as a field of research.
THE KIMONO
At the studio, she is developing the Kimono collection. It draws on the garment.
« With the idea of dressing the space. »
The garment as a starting point, the piece as a second skin for a place. An echo of Tricot's imagination.
AND NOW
The studio is advancing on several commissions. A wine cooler developed with the Commanderie de Peyrassol vineyard, in the Var. And, most recently, the design of an olive oil bottle for the Château de la Verrière, in the Luberon.
Each project: a material, a use, a place. The kind of French craft and encounter Tricot is built on.
