Renske Linders

PARIS, FR

Painter from the Netherlands, now based in Paris, in residence at Poush.

Renske works with oil paint. Her painting is sharp, precise, almost tactile. She focuses on fragments: an object, a hand, a quiet detail of everyday life, isolated and brought into the light. No faces, no staging. A presence, that's all.

She opened the doors of her studio for us.

HER INSPIRATIONS

Renske claims a clear lineage.

« I look a lot at realist painters from the 16th and 17th centuries, from the Netherlands, but also from Italy. »

That tradition of precision: the fall of a fabric, the reflection on a surface, the way light holds an object. She inherits its patience and its accuracy, and brings her own contemporary eye to it. Her work often zooms in on objects, or on parts of the body.

A SERIES OF SUITCASES

She is currently working on a series around suitcases.

« It's a way for me to create portraits of people. Through their belongings, you can understand the character. »

Folded clothes, a book, a mirror, the things one chooses to carry. Everything that tells who we are without having to show a face. That is what struck us when we first discovered her work at Poush. The idea resonated immediately. A wardrobe, a chosen garment, is already a portrait. A natural echo of what Tricot stands for.

Recently, ceramics have entered her practice too. Small mirrors emerging from the suitcases, sculpted objects in dialogue with the paintings. Volume answering surface, matter answering image. Something playful and very precise at once.

CARTE BLANCHE

From that encounter came a simple idea: to give her carte blanche. Not a collaboration in the usual sense, a dialogue of gazes.

Renske naturally chose the red polo, the house's signature piece. Its colour, its hand, its drape. She came to observe it at our atelier, then worked back at Poush, in paint, on ceramic.

IN HER STUDIO

A few weeks later, we meet her again in her new space. The ceramic piece is there, on the wall. She is laying down the final strokes. She signs the work in front of us.

The red polo becomes painting, becomes volume, becomes object. Another way of looking at it.

WHAT'S NEXT

Renske is preparing her first solo show in the Netherlands.

« It's so special to return to my country with a solo show. There are many exciting projects coming up, and we keep going. »

So do we.
